Chopta,Tungnath,Ukhimath are all amazing places in Uttrakhand. The journey begins from Delhi at around 2 PM (As it's an odd time to start but we took a night halt in Muzaffarnagar(which is my hometown) & started 6 AM next day for Chopta. Before I start sharing the pics and our memorable story of losing all our wallets credit cards, cash (entire bag) in Rudrpyayag, please look at the summary of our trip.
Total Journey - 1100 KM Approx
Duration- First Week Of December 2016
Our Stays:
- Chauhan Guest House, Baniyakund, Chopta
- Hotel Jwala Palace, Rudrpyayag
- Muzaffarnagar (Home)
Route:
Delhi-Meerut-Muzaffarnagar-Rishikesh-Rudraprayag-Augustmuni-Ukhimath-Baniyakund -Chopta (Back to Delhi via same route)
Altitude:
- Chopta - 8,790 ft
- Chandrashila -13,500 ft
Road Conditions:
Awesome mountain roads (No Broken Roads Till Chopta), Some patches from Muzaffarnagar to Roorkee are under construction.
Mountain Peaks:
Nandadevi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch & Chaukhamba Range of Himalayas.
Places of interest:
- Tungnath (considered as the highest Shiva temple in the World & highest situated temple in Asia)
- Chandrashila Peak at 13,500 ft which provides the amazing 360 degrees panoramic views of the almighty Himalayas.
- Mountain Roads & Grass land patches (Bugyal/ Meadows)
- Those who are passionate for trekking will love this amazing trek.
Tungnath & Chandrashila Trek - Time & Distance
Started 7 AM Reached Highest Peak (Chandrashila) at 12:20 PM & reached back to Chopta at 2 PM. Total distance 5K but remember its Steep Trek and you are gaining altitude from 8 to 13 K feet approx. Tip - Start as early as you can.
Imp Tip: There are 2 Choptas in Uttrakhand, There is another small village with same name which is only 20 km from Rudraprayag. Google Map will show you the wrong chopta and will land you to a wrong place which has nothing to see. Please rememember to take Augustmuni-Ukhimath after you reach to Rudraprayag.

The story begins with..We lost our bag somewhere in Rudraprayag (which has our wallets, id, money (7-10 K cash) everything)..We didn't notice and keep going.. Got a call from unknown number who told us about our bag and wallets.. So fortunate to meet such a peopled from Mountains. Thanks to Navin & Anoop For returning our bags & to come 20 Km for us.
